THIS WAY OUT the international gay & lesbian radio magazine RUNDOWN for Program #1,110, distributed 7/6/09 via Pacifica Radio's satellite and Audioport, and free online downloads at www.indymedia.org and www.radio4all.net (hosted this week by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle) Obama promises to keep promises at his Pride party; Delhi's High Court throws the Constitution at India's sodomy law, pride blooms in India, Ireland, Germany and the U.S., and overcomes challenges in Turkey and Slovenia, a Ft. Worth flashback mimics the Stonewall bar raid, and more global LGBT news; and LGBTQ youth find readin', writin', 'rithmetic and refuge => Program #1,110 RUNDOWN <= Opening teases/theme music/intro continuity. . . . . . . . . . . 1:07 SEGMENT #1 - "NewsWrap": After a 9 year legal battle, the Delhi High Court declares India's penal code Section 377 banning "carnal intercourse against the order of nature" unconstitutional; the traditional Pride month of June is capped off by parades across India, and in Dublin, Paris, Berlin, Istanbul, San Francisco, and New York; but masked assailants attack a Pride literary event in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana, and Fort Worth, Texas law enforcement officers roughly raid a newly-opened gay bar almost 40 years to the hour after the original raid at New York City's Stonewall Inn on June 28, 1969 sparked the modern day LGBT liberation movement; the murder=2 0of a gay sailor at a Marine base in Southern California underscores the heartless aspects of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and a National Guard administrative board orders the discharge of openly gay Iraq War combat veteran and Arabic linguist Lt. Dan Choi; and rights pioneer Frank Kameny gets an official apology from the U.S. government 52 years after he was fired from his federal job for being gay (written by GREG GORDON, with thanks to REX WOCKNER with BILL KELLEY, and reported this week by SHERI LUNN and CHRISTOPHER DAVID TRENTHAM) [10:39] + Krever/Hetrick-Martin billboard [:09]. . . . . . . . . . . . . 10:48 SEGMENT #2 – U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA had an interestingg LGBT Pride month – to say the least. First he received heavvy fire from equality advocates for the horribly offensive language in his Department of Justice’s federal court brief supporting the Defense of Marriage Act. Several high-profile community leaders registered their disappointment in Obama's failure to deliver on key campaign promises by boycotting an annual LGBT fundraising dinner for the Democratic National Committee. The president closed out his Pride Month experience on June 29th by hosting an official White House reception for some 300 LGBT movers and shakers. Obama acknowledged the impatience, and trumpeted what he's done so far. We have highlights, and some reaction (with intro/outro music from "Words" by THE BEE GEES) . . . . . . . . . . . . .=2 0. 8:57 SEGMENT #3 – Since it was founded in 1979, the HETRICK-MARTIIN INSTITUTE, home of The HARVEY MILK HIGH SCHOOL in NEW YORK CITY, has provided support and services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth from the ages of 12 to 21, and their families. This Way Out’s STEVE PRIDE sat down with the Institute's EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR THOMAS KREVER to learn about Hetrick-Martin [hmi.org], Harvey Milk High School, and the challenges the nonprofit faces in these tough economic times [givethemhopenow.org] (with outro music from the acoustic version of "Small Town Boy" by BRONSKI BEAT). . . . . . . . . . . . . . 6:53 Closing Credits/continuity. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1:03 TOTAL PROGRAM TIME. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 28:48 =================================== * ============================== STATION PROMO COPY: ANNCR: NEXT TIME ON "THIS WAY OUT," OBAMA PROMISES TO KEEP PROMISES AT HIS PRIDE PARTY – HEAR HIGHLIGHTS FROM HIS WHITE HOUSE RECEPTION REMARKS...
